Child / Adolescent Therapy

There may be concerns about mental health such as worry/anxiety, low mood/depression, low self-esteem or high stress; emotional overwhelm, anger, loss or grief; the effects of trauma; peer, family or relationship issues; identity or sexuality concerns; bullying or social media problems; or anything else young people are dealing with. Child sessions usually involve the parent / caregiver. Children and adolescents can use engaging, interactive approaches to reduce the effects of serious issues.

EMDR Therapy

Tina is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and EMDR for Children and Adolescents. This approach helps people heal from trauma and other complex life changes. It has been extensively researched and has demonstrated effectiveness. For more information see: https://emdr.org.nz/

Family Therapy

In our busy lives we don’t often get the chance to reflect on family life and check-in with each person about how we are going together. Families often have to deal with big issues such as trauma, grief, conflict, health problems, times of transitions, separation, blending families, the effects of migration, abuse, and much more. Sometimes problems have lasted for generations and now is the time for change. Sometimes communication is not ideal, relationships may be strained, or unhelpful patterns of interaction have developed. Families can express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, build on strengths, discuss preferred ways of relating and make useful changes.

Parent / Caregiver and Child Sessions

Tina has level one and level two Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) training. This is an attachment-focused family therapy designed to help children who have experienced trauma. It aims to facilitate secure attachment by focusing on the caregiver’s role in co-regulating emotional states, supporting the child’s development of a coherent narrative, and fostering a safe and trusting therapeutic environment.

Parenting Together

Whether parents are a couple or apart, parenting together is a challenging but important task. The effort you put into working together in parenting will have significant benefits for your children and for you. This may involve planning parenting approaches and interactions with children, understanding child development, developing strategies that fit with your values and having a plan for dealing with problems.

Sexual Abuse Counselling

Tina works with children and adolescents who have experienced sexual harm. This is usually funded through ACC. Getting professional support is useful for clearly identifying that responsibility lies with the offender, allowing space for expression, addressing feelings of blame and shame, re-establishing a sense of safety and boundaries, understanding trauma responses, identifying strengths and survival strategies, and planning a way forward.

Bereavement Counselling

Tina is a provider for Aoake te rā / Bereaved by suicide service. This service funds six sessions for anyone in Aotearoa who is bereaved by suicide. Please check out their website for further details of this service and to self-refer.
